I'm Jonathan, the creator of SF IRL. I've been a Bay Area resident all my life and just moved into San Francisco about 2 years ago. My full-time job is at Brex as an XIR where I meet founders and VCs while trying to create a community in the city. My vision for SF IRL is simple. Showcase the best tech + startup events in SF and to connect all of our builders and investors together. We are a growing community having over 4000+ subscribers. About Jim: Jim Fan is a senior research scientist at NVIDIA AI. His mission is to build generally capable AI agents with applications to game AI, robotics, and software automation. His research spans foundation models, multimodal AI, reinforcement learning, and open-ended learning. Jim obtained his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from Stanford University, advised by Prof. Fei-Fei Li. His work "MineDojo" won the Outstanding Paper Award at NeurIPS 2022. Previously, Jim did research internships at OpenAI, Google AI, and MILA-Quebec AI Institute. He was the Valedictorian of the class of 2016 and a recipient of the Illig Medal at Columbia University.

What: If the spatial computing revolution means that digital environments will be everywhere, that means that everyone will - in some way - be in them, or at least be exposed to them. And we all know that the text-based internet has not been a complete success in terms of human progress, socially and psychologically.
So how do we do better with the spatial internet? Is this a matter of regulation? Or community engagement? Or an ethical revolution? Or something else entirely? Can we make digital environments and metaverses better - for all, for all time - than the default world, somehow? Or will that remove the potential for novelty, discovery, creativity?
This conversation, led by leaders in imagination, design, philosophy and governance of spatial environments and digital communities, explores the human frontier in the spatial computing age.
