Hi SF IRL! Happy April! There's a ton of vibrance and energy coming back into the city and at SF IRL, we are excited to be a part of it. Excited to come with you all with some great events for Issue #41 of SF IRL.
I'm Jonathan, the creator of SF IRL. I've been a Bay Area resident all my life and just moved into San Francisco about 2 years ago. My full-time job is at Brex as an XIR where I meet founders and VCs while trying to create a community in the city. My vision for SF IRL is simple. Showcase the best tech + startup events in SF and to connect all of our builders and investors together. What: Movie production has used CG—computer-generated— imagery for already 50 years. In the last two decades, the majority of the most valuable movies have used CG as part of their storytelling.
But CG has always been a post-production technology—applied after almost all the other creative decisions have been taken, costing significant time and expense. Today's CG is becoming a live action technology in the form of "virtual production." This is the shooting of actors live on a practical soundstage, in front of a high-resolution digital background (or 'volume'), rendered in real time as a living spatial environment.
This conversation explores how virtual production is revolutionizing the creative, technical and business dimensions of visual storytelling, and links the technology and assets of virtual production to evolutions in other digital environments, including metaverses and more.
